There's a few challenges early on (Carthaginian and Macedonian cavalry can be an absolute nightmare against your light infantry) but honestly, Greek Cities and Carthage are ridiculously weak opponents, and you get the advantage of an entirely new army setup halfway through your battles with them. On the other hand, don't worry about playing on hard. There is some economic potential there in the form of mining and farming, but the natural defences in the form of mountains, cheap-as-chips Spanish armies that block your every advance with no trouble and unruly subjects that will revolt unless you murder them all (eliminating much of the economic potential the region may have had) make it pointless.
